Dolly & Desi start to make a scene and then that stresses the big dog and the
closer the big dog gets, the more viscious looking and sounding Dolly & Desi
get. There is this one lady in the neighborhood…maybe weighs 100 if even that
much, and she walks two Akitas. She literally looks like she is being dragged.
I often wondered what would happen if those dogs got excited about something
or someone….I can picture her being dragged down the sidewalk like the Alaskan
huskies drag the sleighs.

I have to say Rebecca you brought up one of my pet peeves. People who have
large dogs, who do either not take the time or have no clue on training them.
I don't know how many times I have been out with my little ones and here is
some out of control tank dragging their owner and terrorizing me and my dogs.
Mine are freaking out, and I am trying to pick up both of them..it is so
stressful and unnecessary..Grrrrr..ok rant over..lol

Ok I may get in trouble for posting an unpopular opinion. Let me first say I
have two advanced train great Danes.

Correct both of them for fighting. You are the boss. Correct firmly! Correct
every time. I am afraid altering is not always the cure-all everyone hopes.

I had a food aggressive, dominant bitch, pushy, female Dane. She was AWFUL.
with firm training she is an amazing girl!!! She is stable around anyone!

Excuse me, but I am not procrastinating. Our vets are very good with cows and

When I was a kid we had two males – each part Chihuahua – one part Fox Terrier
and one part Beagle. They would have the same kind of spats as Dolly & Desi
do, but never violent towards each other.

Get them neutered or you will always have this problem. Neutering is very
cheap and any vet can do it. Quite procrastinating. Sooner or later one dog
will kill or injure the other badly enough to cost you lots more than neutering
would have.

No they are not neutered, for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I don't
really trust any of the vets within about a hundred miles and Bruiser has a
heart problem. We live in a very rural area in western Canada. The problem
is, I don't know which one to punish. Bruiser is very dominating and I can
understand why Monster just gets sick of it. They start growling at each other
when there is any excitement around them, I intervene at that point, if I don't
within a few seconds they are on each other. I don't think much happens when
I'm not around, because they don't excited.

Thank you,

Pam

My first question would be are they both neutered?? If not, they seriously need
to be. If it is not hormonal, but domination, then I will share a shortened
version of my story when I met my husband. He had a very psycho Jack russell
who did not play well with others and I had my two Chihuahus. All three were
males..but his is a large 23 pounds and mine 3 and 6 pounds..no contest. His
Jack would just attack for no reason and I could never leave them alone
together fearing injury to mine. He had never neutered Jack whi ch was adding
to the problem so we had him neutered. That helped some..but basically what I
had to make Jack understand was I was alpha in the pecking order. If he
attacked the Chis, it had consequences..Not only was Mommy seriously unhappy
but he was chastized and separated in another part of the house. He is not fed
first, given treats first, or treated as Alpha in the pecking order. If any of
the three starts trouble, they are equally chastized. I still don't trust Jack
enough to leave them together when I leave the house..my Chis are in the
bedroom, but under my watchful eye, he behaves..

Hi,

I've been around for a while but don't post very often, mostly lurk, but now I
need help. I have two chis, both girls, I have Bruiser and the "other"
Monster. We rescued them both off the road near our house about three years
ago. They were dumped in March in very bad weather in an area heavy with
coyotes, (an unfortunate but common practice here).

Anyway, Monster was a juvenile at the time, Bruiser, a young adult. Bruiser
was the Alpha of the two, well as time goes by, Monster is now bigger and
struggling to take over the Alpha spot.

Poor Bruiser doesn't want to give it up, and as a result has lost two front
teeth and has an assortment of other minor cuts and abrasions. I have tried
EVERYTHING I know to stop them from fighting.

PLEASE! If anyone can suggest anything I would appreciate it!

Thanks,

Pam
