Yes the aggressive dog subject is usually a hot topic for sure.  With opinions
on each side of the fence and some in the middle.  But usually opinions are
formed based on experience either personally or from someone you know.  20
years ago, I was out walking my two Chihuahuas and stopped to chat with some
neighbors who were sitting on their porch.  My dogs as always were on leash.
The neighbor's 12 year old daughter came out to mush my dogs, whom she loved.
She went back in to get them a treat and their pit bull came crashing out
of the screen door. This was another example of the sweet, wouldn'
t hurt a flea family pit bull.  He, before I could make a move, grabbed one of
my Chis and snapped his spine.  I was in the process of grabbing the other one
when he leaped and sunk his jaws into the side of Shadow's ribcage..just
missing the spine as I was in the process of grabbing him up to me.  It took 75
stitches but Shadow lived..sort of..always crippled up until he passed.  Do you
know what happened to the pitt..he made the dangerous dog list..with his
picture and where he lived..No Kharma there...Personally I think there should
be legislation on whom can own aggressive breed dogs and what kind of training
they must have.

I don’t think it is simplistic at all. Apparently if it is a neighbor, she sees
her all the time. That is different than strangers on a strange street. Never
said anything about not calling animal control. Most people would feel that way
simply because the dog is a “pit”. which is what I got from the post and that
IMO is a unfair.

That is a touch simplistic.  There are laws, for good reason, in some areas,
that regulate whether or not you are allowed to have your animal off leash.  If
you do not know the owner, or the dog, you can not trust that that particular
animal is "under control".  It is your right to call the authorities.  And
being human, some of us, myself included, have a problem with aggressive dog
breeds..pit included.  To see one unrestrained and be subjected to a fear for
yourself or your family..sorry I would call the authorities too.

Is the dog under control? That should be all that matters, not the breed.

There is a lady down the cul-de-sac who has a pit bull…when her and her 2 yo
daughter go for the mail, the pit comes too…without a leash.
The next time that I see that, from inside my house, I will call animal control.

Yep..unfortunately I don't want to be involved with them when it does.  And
don't even get me started when they don't leash their dogs.  We have a lady
with a young Pit next door, and she will let him run sometimes.  Now don't want
to start a flame but personally not the breed for me..ever..and he comes
running all over my property.  I have tried to politely tell her "keep ur darn
Pit on ur property" but of course she ignores that.

I think people like that are just a disaster waiting to happen!  My 6 year old
can walk our danes!  I took Daisy trick or treating with my daughter and I, if
at any point I had to help my daughter all I had to say to Daisy was "down" (1
time) and she would go into a down and then I have my hands free to help my
daughter.  I think having a large untrained dog is very irresponsible!

Dolly & Desi start to make a scene and then that stresses the big dog and the
closer the big dog gets, the more viscious looking and sounding Dolly & Desi
get.  There is this one lady in the neighborhood…maybe weighs 100 if even that
much, and she walks two Akitas.  She literally looks like she is being
dragged.  I often wondered what would happen if those dogs got excited about
something or someone….I can picture her being dragged down the sidewalk like
the Alaskan huskies drag the sleighs.

I have to say Rebecca you brought up one of my pet peeves.  People who have
large dogs, who do either not take the time or have no clue on training them.
I don't know how many times I have been out with my little ones and here is
some out of control tank dragging their owner and terrorizing me and my dogs.
Mine are freaking out, and I am trying to pick up both of them..it is so
stressful and unnecessary..Grrrrr..ok rant over..lol

Ok I may get in trouble for posting an unpopular opinion. Let me first say I
have two advanced train great Danes.

Correct both of them for fighting. You are the boss. Correct firmly! Correct
every time. I am afraid altering is not always the cure-all everyone  hopes.

I had a food aggressive, dominant bitch, pushy, female Dane. She was AWFUL.
with firm training she is an amazing girl!!!  She is stable around anyone!
