Dolly had eaten so many that they were accumulating near her rectum. It was
like a dam in there. The vet did try to loosen, but there was a big
accumulation at that end and all through her intestines was just glittered with
the rocks. I think that if I gave her Vaseline or the Catlax, it would not
have been able to get to the rocks and they were still stockpiled at the end.
Such a sweet girl, but very silly to be eating rocks. At that point she was
going for walks and going potty outside – mostly inside, so I didn’t notice
that she wasn’t pooping regularly.

When Becky ate a rock my vet gave me a tube of Catlax to give her. Of course,
they first X rayed to make sure it was small enough to be passed.

The vet told me years ago when my little Happy had rawhide stuck in tummy. He
said put some Vaseline on your finger and let pup lick it and helps move it on.
Worked for us. This was in 1995 but I have done it mant times since.

When Dolly was teething, she was doing more than laying in the sun outside.
One day she was running around playing and then I was going to take her
somewhere. I was going into the bedroom to get my purse or something and I
heard her screeching. I turned back to see what was wrong and then she was
running around again. Then she started the screeching and her tail was stuck
between her legs. She wouldn’t let me move the tail without her screeching. I
took her to the vet and he couldn’t move her tail either. He asked if he could
do x-rays and, of course, I said yes. Then he came back in the little room and
asked me what Dolly had been eating, and my response was ‘Dog food’. He took
me to the back and showed me an x-ray of Dolly and there were white spots from
her neck all the way through her body and then a lot of white near her tail.
He said that they had to keep her and they would have to give her fluids and
then a puppy enema. I called a little while later and they said that there
were white rocks in her poop. They kept her until the next day and they told
me that they think that everything had passed, but told me that without taking
an x-ray that they could not guarantee it, but assured me that there was always
a vet on call. She did OK. But, I didn’t know where the white rocks came
from, because my rocks are kind of a pinky color. The vet said that the color
that is often times added to the white rocks excavated and then used for
landscaping. When Desi was little, I would always be outside when the two of
them were out there because Dolly was still a little tough on him. If I didn’t
see him go over to the rocks and he put one in his mouth and started to chew on
it. I was up in a flash and got it from him. I didn’t need another one having
the rocks through the body.

I could understand eating the rocks caused a big ‘traffic jam’ in Dolly; I saw
Desi try to eat the rocks; but the biggest mystery was that piece of rope
inside of Desi’s poop. I am surprised that it actually was able to pass
through his entire digestive system. Puppies will do chewing and swallowing of
things that they shouldn’t. The little plastic toys Desi could chew into
pieces in a matter of minutes. They don’t really play with any toy that has
hardened rope for arms or legs; they totally amputate all arms, legs, tails,
ears, etc. from their stuffed toys, and those toys are their favorites.

Ann, I did the same thing. I already had a situation where my Becky swallowed
a rock. That was scary. However, the vet gave her some things to move it
along and she passed it without surgery.

After reading your message, I threw the rope toys away. Better not to take a
chance

Thanks

Mine do not eat the rope. The ropes have not diminished in size. If they were
eating it, I would toss it in the trash and get a new one.

Be careful with rope toys. I have a friend whose dog almost died from the
strings on a rope toy being eaten. Got twisted around in his cut and required
expensive surgery to save him.

I no longer buy toys that involve ropes.

My Pepper picks up and plays with stuffed toys that are half her size (she is
about 6 1/2 pounds). I have also bought rope toys that have a head at one end
and feet at the other, and once the feet and head disconnect from the rope
(after weeks of tug-o-war with Rascal), I sew them shut and they have three
toys. I have also found small fuzzy bones with an extra squeaker but I can not
remember where I found them - it may have been at Walgreens. I have been
thinking of making some tug toys out of denim material - it may hold up to
Rocky better - in 6 months he has shredded many of the toys that had lasted
Pepper and Rascal for years!

Is there a place that sells small squeaky toys? Rosie loves them but all the
ones I got are to big for her mouth. I got the carrot and the poor girl tries
and tries to get it to squeak. Just wondering thanks.
