I agree. I have learned a lot about skin disorders since I got my new rescue tino. He has demodectic mange..which can be localized or generalized(all over). It is not transmitted to humans or dogs and it is not itchy. It is an immune system problem. It is not uncommon in puppies or young dogs because their immune system is not fully developed yet and poor nutrition or neglect can make it prolific. If you have an older dog with it, then there is usually an underlying cause..illness..that is causing it. In other words, it is a symptom not a stand alone condition. Skin scrapings are the only diagnostic tool.

Sometimes losing hair can be a symptom of an immune deficiency.
I recommend taking her to your trusted vet and they will most likely do a skin scraping to see exactly what it is.
Good Luck!

Hi, My name is Anne and I am new to the group I have a 7 year old Chihuahua named Hannah, who I inherited about six months ago. About a year ago or so ago, she lost all the hair on her belly and chest. She grew a little back. Now she losing fur in a couple patches on her back. It doesn't seem to be itchy and it is in a spot on her back she cannot reach. It is not ringworm and she does not have fleas. Anyone have any input? She does suffer from allergies. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Anne |
