I went to see him and I talked my way into bringing him home. He still has a
ways to go..but better than last night. OMG, he started coming out of his daze
when we drove up and when I set him down in the backyard with the pack he went
nuts. Tail wagging and jumping all over Paco, his favorite brother. It was a
wonderful thing. They do not see any evidence of head injury so decided to
treat it as a toxic event. We don't know how or why..none of the other dogs
are sick, but he got the charcoal treatment, fluids, and has meds to take. He
is still symptomatic neurologically but I would say at least 50% better. He is
sleeping in his little bed in his playpen so glad to be home and safe. Mom
will probably check on him about 20 or thirty times lol but he is safe.

I know of some one else that went through the same weird symptoms with her chi.
The no vomiting/diarrhea usually rules out ingested poisoning. Turns out the
dog got stung by a small scorpion that they found in a shoe 3 days later. It
took the dog almost a month to fully recover.

So I am going to try to think outside the box. Is it possible that he could
have gotten stung by some type of bug, do you have any special type of spiders
or insects in your state that could cause this? How about a snake bite, you
have those.

How about plants and flowers on your property, and inside your house, are they
all pet safe? Do you have any Sago palms?

You said that you don't use any bug stuff inside your house, does that mean you
don't use it outside too? Do you use a fertilizer or plant food inside or
outside, that he could have eaten? And how about flea/tick meds on the dogs?
We know that not all dogs will have a reaction to those, but some do. Tino may
belong in that 'some' group which is why the other dogs are okay.

Did they take a real good look down his ears, to rule out a tiny tick in the
canal, or anywhere on his body? Did they check him all over for any type of a
bite from something else?

Did they do an xray of his skull to rule out a fracture? And of his digestive
track, tummy, to see if that looks okay......much cheaper then an MRI.

If it is a poisoning of any type, the regular blood test don't show that. There
is a special blood test for that and I can't remember what they call it.

One last try, I remember you were trying natural alternatives for his skin. Is
it possible he could have had a reaction to an herb that is in them? Since
the other dogs are all okay, (TG) then it could be something that Tino gets and
the others don't.

More prayers heading your way! Sorry Pam, if you already thought of all the
above ideas, just trying to help. Give that baby a special kiss from me and
Gigi when you see him.

Peggy

Racking our collective brains. He is my scavenger dog so everything goes down
the hatch. No flea/tick//no bug stuff. We use no chemicals like that inside
the house. None of the other dogs are sick. Could we have dropped a pill..we
are so careful but always a possibility. But he had no vomiting or diarrhea..is
eating fine so this is a mystery at this point. So far blood work ok but they
will be redoing it. If it is a head injury, u are looking at a $5000.00 MRI if
needed..can't do that for sure finance wise. One night in the ER was $500.00.

Almost sounds like an exposure to pesticides. Did you put any flea/tick stuff
on him or bug stuff around your home? Could he have gotten into ant poison or
something like that?

Just talked to my Vet. He is still showing neurological symptoms..tremors and
wobbliness..tongue sticking out..but is eating and calmer. They say has shown
some improvement. Still on iv fluids. Still trying to figure out if it was
head injury or he ingested something. I will visit him later today and we will
have a better idea. Thank u all for the prayers. I am devastated but still
praying..

Am sending prayers too. Any news this morning? I walked all the tiny dogs at
the shelter yesterday. We have 2 of the sweetest senior male Chi's. One is
barely 4 pounds and has just 1 tooth. They are such dear souls. Thank God
they make every effort possible before they Euth the little ones!

Is a very good sign that his bloodwork is OK.

Be Blessed,

Sue

Just got back from the Vet Er. Had to leave my baby there..so upset..crying
myself sick. Tino went to jump off the couch and his legs went right from
under him and he fell. Then he couldn't walk at all and was twitching all
over..tongue hanging out..completely disoriented. Thought he had a head or
neck injury. He was crying and crying..

Took him to ER and they think that he injested something. What, how, and where
I don't know but he was showing overdose or seizure signs..don't know what yet.
They will call me with results of blood work but I had to leave him there
crying like that. Breaking my heart waiting..
