Mark, in case I wasn't aware of your loss of Choxi last May, please except
my sympathies. She sounds like she was a very special little lady. I know
how they can always leave a hole in our hearts...

Hello Becky:

I got through a few weeks of e-mail faster than I thought. A pet can live
with Cushings with the help of medications. My Choxi had Cushings and we
treated her for two years before we lost her last May, she was one of our
first rescues and was around 12 years old. This is still very hard for me
to talk about her.

First and foremost a pet can live a full life with Cushings. We first
noticed that Choxi had issues when we noticed she was loosing all bladder
control.and not using the dogging door. When we took her to the vet we were
informed that she may have Cushings and started the blood tests. Once
confirmed the vet informed us of our options for treatment. We thought we
would first try the meds we found on the net that was to treat naturally
(not a vet option), but that did not work. We went back to the vet and
started to follow their advice. It took a few trips to the vet and lots of
blood tests to get the correct dosage down.

We had Choxi on Trilostane but there is also Lysodren and Prednisone. I know
the cost of Trilostane was not cheap but Choxi was small, the daily dosage
was small so the cost was not all that much. Once we had her under control
with the good meds the bladder control was improved and the accidents were
under control. Choxi still acted as a normal dog, loved to run around, loved
going on Starbucks and people watch, loved to eat apples at night. You
should really notice anything different in her activities.

Please keep me posted on Gracie's progress.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Cushing's Disease

Anyone here have any experience with Cushing's Disease with their little Chi
s? My little girl, Gracie (6 years) tested slightly elevated on her ALKP.
Vet says this could mean onset of Cushing's Disease, and she should be
tested again at the end of June. I am worried.
Any advice or info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Becky & the girls
