I have been told in the past that a short-hair Chihuahua only needs to be
bathed about once every 6 months. However, if your chis have fleas, ticks,
scratching, etc., then you can bathe them more often, but use an oatmeal
shampoo which won't dry out their skin.
I bathe my two - 7 lbs and 8 3/4 lbs in the kitchen sink. I put a non-skid mat
in the sink, get the water the right tempo while it is running in the other
side of the sink, and then use my pull-out faucet on the spray mode.I have the
sink plugged up but I only have the water on when I am wetting them down, and
when I am rinsing them off. My two wear clothes every day, and they don't have
dirt to lay in They mostly go out to potty and then lay on their mats on the
patio or their cot bed out there. Desi has dry skin and allergies, so he gets a
bath more often; and sometimes Dolly wants a bath just because Desi had one,
and if it has not been a good amount of time since she had a bath, I will just
give her a quick oatmeal bath.
