Yes, free feeding can encourage food aggression since the dog doesn't have to
"work" to earn meals. But if you have no grandkids that level is usually not a
problem. I can take food or a rawhide away from every dog but I am an Alpha
person to a dog so don't have problems.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] I just found out Gigi is food aggressive

I've had Gigi since she was 6 weeks old and she's a little over 2 now. She has
never missed a meal or had to compete for food. She's always been an only pet.
Last night I made her some baked chicken breast. I patted her head after giving
it to her and she stiffed up and tried to bite me. I was shocked.

She has never growled, barked, or bit. She is free feed so I've never seen this
behavior. She takes food gently from my hand. I'm confused about this. I tried
to recreate the moment and the second time I petted her she didn't growl, but
did stiff up. Any advice? This is food aggression?
