The dogs are all small breed animals, including Yorkshire terriers, Maltese, miniature poodles, dachshunds and Chihuahuas and have been shaved because of severe matting in their fur. Many are pregnant, some have dental problems, and some are partially to significantly visually impaired. Dogs may stay with foster families anywhere from one week to a few months, depending on each dog's situation. The dogs are not available for adoption yet. Foster families may have no more than eight animals in their home. The Denkai Sanctuary can provide food for the dogs if needed and will provide all veterinary care, which must be provided at the sanctuary, 217 First St., Eaton, Colo. Prospective foster families should send an email to adoptioncen...@denkaisanctuary.org for pre-screening. They must then complete an application for fostering before they will be approved. Applications can be picked up in person or found at denkaisanctuary.org. The sanctuary will begin accepting applications about 8 or 9 a.m. Thursday.
