Chromium is known to compile with a wider selection of tools and distros
than what is
stated on the Linux build page, but as noted on that page, Linux
development is at a
very early stage, and what is listed there (basically, Ubuntu Hardy) is the
only
configuration getting official testing. As more code is ported and more
configurations are tested, we may be able to loosen some of the
restrictions, but
some restrictions might also need to be tightened depending on the
requirements of
new code (for instance, we may already have to require gcc > 4.2.1, since
there's
apparently a bug in that version which affects our code -- see issue 1518).
For now
we recommend people stick as close to the test configuration as possible.
