More background:
   Use of the timeBeginPeriod() API was introduced after observation that  
Windows
Media Player, Flash, and Quicktime all set do this as well.  This means  
that a single
flash advertisement running in the background induces this behavior.

Does this affect AMD as well?  Or is this Intel specific?
