The problem with the initial bug report is that Gears refused to accept
shortcuts
with names longer than 64 characters. I checked in a fix on trunk that
accepts these
shortcuts (though we truncate the name to 64 chars).
Other people reporting that both "create shortcuts" and "settings" never
work have a
failed Gears install. This is a separate issue that we're working to
resolve.
