[Confirmed] - Very valid and known Safari issue!
Regarding other browsers:
Safari 3 - FAIL, Opera 9 - OK, Firefox 3 - OK, IE 7 - OK (and Chrome -
FAIL)
Problem only for Safari and Chrome.
This is an already known Safari problem and is exactly because Safari and
Chrome are
not automatically showing the ALT text when the image is missing. See:
