Comment #15 on issue 1565 by johnmee: Don't make GoogleUpdate
always-resident
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1565

Thanks erikkay for explaining the pickle.

If the update occurs only when the browser is in use (eg: irritating prompt
for
restart during session) then the 2% boot crash scenario will happen only in
the
context of the user knowing that an update is occuring, and the update has
obviously
failed.
Is 'i-see-i-crashed-on-last-boot-do-you-want-to-revert-to-previous-version'
too ugly and/or much work? ok probably.

Alternatively, given that only advanced users care about a resident
app 'clogging up
and interfering with' their system make this feature an option (default to
residency). If the 2% crash scenario occurs then they can pride themselves
on how
savvy they are to google around for the problem/solution, alas with another
browser/machine. They're quite likely accustomed to being an oppressed and
unloved
minority.
