Thanks Anantha for the tip about checking the UA from about:version Solution: Close all other Chrome windows and run only one Chrome with the UA mod. (And Hotmail works for me again!) You cannot run two Chrome windows at the same time, one with --user-agent modified and one normally. There's some kind of conflict with the internally compiled user- agent being sent.
