I talked to Adrian Perrig about this at CSS.  I'd have to look into the  
precise
details, but the main idea sounded reasonable.  Bogus certificate errors  
are a big
drain on user's security warning tolerance.

Greg, this is much more likely to happen if you can contribute patches.   
The right
place to start looking in the code is SSLManager and SSLPolicy.  Let me  
know if you'd
like help understanding how this stuff works.
