This bug is really annoying, I have looked into it a bit more on the webkit side to know "where" it was working. My findings from binary search through the nightly builds is that last time it worked was r38492 2008-11-17 and it broke r38705 2008-11-24. There are only 4 builds in between that I can't test due to crashes (incompatible safari versions) I hope that could be of assistance to anyone, since I am not experienced in that area. Nevertheless, I will look into what has changed so I can explore the code more and be familiar with that code, and maybe I could figure it out. No promises.
