Some more detail from testing today: This is happening in various places, and is sometimes consistent and sometimes not. I have had the problem also on a phpBB forum, where it sometimes mysteriously goes away after a couple of tries, and sometimes persists. The problem appears to be intermittent on these bug reporting pages as well. When it is intermittent it is usually cured by a backspace before continuing to type, but even this is intermittent. Google search page behaviour is consistent for me so far. Additionally, on all sites when the problem is occurring, pressing space bar twice *does* appear to put a (single) space in the text box. The first press scrolls the page, the second press scrolls the page back to where it was and enters the space (performing two actions.)
