Are you still getting the same issue ?

If so try this from command line:
cd PathToChrome
chrome.exe --user-data-dir="C:\TestDir"
If Chrome launches successfully, then it looks like your profile might be  
corrupted !!

[PathToChrome: IN case of XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application
