Comment #3 on issue 5826 by [email protected]: BSOD on vista triggered by
Chrome
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=5826
I haven't received a minidump from the original poster, but Hernán (from
comment 1 above) sent me his.
Hernán, thank you for the minidump.
This blue screen doesn't look Chrome-specific to me. The process crashing
is avgnsx.exe (AVG Internet Security) with a call stack
that leads into Sacm2A.sys causing a blue screen. A Google search for this
driver revealed that it is a Scientific-Atlanta USB
cable modem driver, and looking at the callstack it seems the drivers for
it haven't been updated since mid-year 2004:
8f600000 8f603800 Sacm2A T (no symbols)
Loaded symbol image file: Sacm2A.sys
Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\Sacm2A.sys
Image name: Sacm2A.sys
Timestamp: Thu Jun 10 05:42:36 2004 (40C8573C)

ImageSize: 00003800
Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e0 0409.04b0 0409.04e0
My recommendation to you would be to update the drivers if you are using
the modem and uninstall the drivers if you are not. If
it still crashes after updating the drivers I would provide a new minidump
to Scientific-Atlanta.
For posterity, here is the analysis from the minidump.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at
an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.

Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
Arg3: 00000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
