I was looking at this and I my inclination is as follows:

1) for "native" icons, we should GTK_STOCK_ICONS rather than free desktop  
icons. I
think the former makes more sense because the bookmarks, favicons etc. are  
a part of
the UI, meaning they will be sitting right next other GTK_STOCK buttons and  
graphics,
and not, say, KDE desktop icons.

2) we should only use these native offerings in the browser UI when we are  
in GTK
theme mode. For the dialogs, we can always use the native icons. If we  
always use the
STOCK icons then the gtk theme might clash with the default chromium theme  
rather
horribly (e.g., for the "other bookmarks" icon).
