Whenever it happens to me, I can predict exactly when it will happen. If I click the tab of a non-active tab and I move the mouse away, but notice that the tab it drawing slowly (under heavy system load)... I can guarantee that by the time the tab is finished drawing, it will suddenly become detached and under the new position of my mouse.
