i did the following test:

i (using another browser) found a long Wikipedia term i never browsed before
"African American (U.S. Census)"
i typed
"African American (u.s c"
in the omnibox but didn't get any useful suggestion
i typed the same while in the tab-to-search mode of en.wikipedia.org and  
did see that
suggestion in the omnibox.

i think that when you typed google, the entries from your history were  
simply
prioritized over the suggestions from wikipedia

if that's really the case maybe there is room to lower the priority for  
history
entries while in tab to search mode

did i understand you suggestion this time?
