It sounds like your 'adam' user has a messed up configuration. At the very  
least, it
has an errant lock file. I'm not sure where chromium-browser keeps its  
configs, but if
you look in there (google-chrome keeps them in $HOME/.config/google-chrome,  
so I
suspect chromium-browser keeps them in $HOME/.config/chromium-browser), do  
you see a
'SingletonLock' file? If so, try moving that, or maybe moving the whole
$HOME/.config/chromium-browser directory, and see if it starts up properly.
