Comment #2 on issue 21417 by [email protected]: Linux Chrome sets http_proxy
to http://:8080 when Automatic proxy configuration is set
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=21417

This isn't an issue in Chromium, it's a bug in gnome-terminal that has
since been
fixed (e.g. in Ubuntu 9.04). Chromium uses the GNOME proxy settings, and
it's actually
GNOME's standard proxy config application that you get when you click
the "Change
proxy settings" button. The bug is that gnome-terminal tries to set
$http_proxy based
on the "manual configuration" settings even when "automatic configuration"
is
selected. As a simple workaround you can briefly select "manual
configuration" and
change the HTTP proxy port number to 0, and then switch back to "automatic".
