Summary: The NTP thumbnails change to incorrect images

Comment #1 on issue 24523 by [email protected]: The NTP thumbnails
change to incorrect images
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=24523

This happens a lot, not just with hotspots. I can make it happen with the
google.com
thumbnail just by navigating to certain sites.

1. Have google.com on your NTP.
2. Click the thumbnail to go to google.com
3. Type "Koodo" without the quotes.
4. The first Google Suggest item should be a direct link to koodomobile.com
5. Press the down arrow key and then enter to select the direct link and go
straight
to koodomobile.com
6. Open your NTP again.
7. The thumbnail for google.com has changed to an image of koodomobile.com

I used Koodo in this example, I don't think the site matters. I can also
reproduce
with Google Wave and Wikipedia, as long as you get a direct Google Suggest
link.

I can't actually reproduce this 100% of the time -- sometimes Chrome gets
stuck with
whatever thumbnail it has and won't update it.

Often, I also get google.com thumbnails showing Google with a popup list of
Suggest
items.

Basically the NTP updates the thumbnail to images which do not represent
the page.
Maybe a solution would be to update the thumbnail only when we first
navigate to the
page (not when navigating away from it, as it's likely in an unusual state
by then),
but only if we did not get redirected to a hotspot page. This may be pretty
tricky,
and may not be fully solvable.
