@114: Isn't that going to be kinda unpredictable as a user? Seems like the selection clipboard is almost always going to be active (but not quite). Personally I'd prefer some solution where the visible behavior is always the same (and thus predictable), perhaps with Magic Hacks. For example, click selects all but doesn't screw with the selection clipboard. (I haven't thought through things, that's just a hypothetical example.)
