Managed to build another version using make instead of hammer. The debug build had the same freezing problem that the binary did. However, I tried running the build under strace and that seems to have cured the freezing bug. I'm building a release version now to confirm the behavior there too. If it also works only under strace I guess we can file this as some sort of race condition.
