Comment #11 on issue 30881 by pkast...@chromium.org: IDNs displayed as punycode in omnibox http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=30881
It would definitely be good to have a description of what we do somewhere, even if only for our own reference. brettw is probably the authority on this stuff. I read that entire thread (again, since I had also read it when it happened) and am not completely sure why it justifies Chrome/Mac sending only one language. It seems like it explains why _Safari_ sends only one language, but from the direction of "Safari doesn't have UI to modify Accept-Language at all". I would assume that for Chrome, our goal is to provide parity with Chrome/Win, which allows users to set this value via explicit UI. If we want to never have this dialog (which I don't have a strong opinion about), it seems like the reasons for not having it are just as valid on Windows, and thus we should get a cross-platform ruling from the UI team (as advised by web compat folks). Thus, my suggestion about how to proceed is: * Ask brettw if there is a description of our IDN policy on our wiki, and if not, work with him to write one * Decide whether you want to ask the UI team to remove the Languages UI on all platforms, and then do that or file a bug to implement it on Mac In the meantime, I'd leave this closed. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
