Comment #12 on issue 7382 by Robert.Bradbury: Shockwave flash plugin cpu
overload
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=7382

This may be related to issue #28930 under regarding libflashplayer.so
activity under
Linux. There are 3 issues with running flashplayer under Linux (or other
OS) -- (1)
there is *NO* prevision for "I'm not paying any attention to that
window/screen" (so
if FLASH wants to run no matter what the user is doing (he's been away from
his desk
for 5 hours, he's been listening to MP3 tracks four 2 hours, all chrome
screens are
minimized, etc. -- any modifications to the screens will NEVER be viewed.
and
"traditional advertisers what to simply shove random information down your
throat" (I
don't want a new matresss -- my current one is fine -- common Comcast
advertisement)
at as rapid a shovel rate as possible -- obviously viewed on cable networks
such as
TNT/Comcast where they shove commercials down your throat (at the rate of
15-20
minutes an hour which one has no interest in.) Google has the model right
-- non-
distracting, annoying, etc. quickly read "commercials" or potentially
informative"
points of interest in 15-30 seconds based entirely on "what am I today now
interested
in". The rest I want to ban from my life (as a worthless timewaster) --
which will
provide me with an incentive to view everything over a DVR or MythTV where
it is easy
to strip out the garbage.

The information offerers who offer such flash productions fail to
understand that
there is a segment of their audience that may value the time, significance,
relevance
etc. as the significant components of their. And si I would say that *ALL*
flash
productions (which consume a significant amount of CPU, distribution
bandwidth or
time should be under the control of the end user -- i.e. the individual who
is paying
for the distribution means and the cost to display it. It can be summed up
as "Its
*My* computer and *My* DSL or Cable line. Vendors of information should
not be able
to impose costs on either of those items which I am paying for without my
permission.

Google has recognized this, Shockwave/Google, IMO has not.

And there should be a strong effort on the part effort to make Google more
aware of
the users more aware of the battle between the useless information
distributors, and
the useful information distributors. And the "useless" information
distributors
(esp, Adobe with Flash, and the advertisers at the expense of "user
attention span",
"user control", "greenness", etc. should be rigidly controlled -- esp. in
Chrome --
otherwise you risk being billed as a "shill" for Adobe) with and a general
lack of
market interest) to embrace a model where market "information",
market "care" or
targeted "marketing" really works.
