Like I said privately when you emailed me: I don't know how portable Chrome works; it is the work of someone outside of the Chromium group, but unless I am mistaken I don't think it comes with Google Update and therefore the Channel Changer is not going to be useful for you since the Channel Changer essentially configures how Google Update should update Google Chrome. If you don't have Google Update, there is no update mechanism to configure. Hence the Channel Changer won't work with portable Chrome.
