managed to find a temporary fix

add the flag --lang=** to your shortcut, where ** is your two char
lang code.

I tested in all supported languages with "--lang=**" startup option.
Only en-US, da, he, and zh-TW are displayed correctly.

Doesn't change my default en-GB setting and allows me to see all UI
text in an
acceptable font size.  Using Chromium build 16844
