If you're going to offer to implement this feature, I'd like to request that you instead implement the extension APIs that would make it possible to implement your feature as an extension. This would have a couple benefits: a) You wouldn't have to fight with the team over whether/how to implement this feature. b) There are pretty-well established patterns for adding APIs to the extension system. c) You'll be making the extension system better, enabling other people to scratch their own itches in the future.
