Hi - I would like to make a suggested function when developing the Chome OS - MORE COMPATIBALITY, bridge the gap between Windows and Chrome.
There are too many business-programs that would have to be recoded, it's the same issue that Apple has had when trying to expand their business-side market share. It's why companies have had a hard time switching over to Linux. Why can't Google create a section of the OS where you could install and run programs that normally install on Windows? An example would be the way DOS behaves on a Windows-based PC. There are DOS executables where the menu is still in the DOS window. So, in a google system you could either have a VB section that would run Windows-based programs a user installs. Or, if there are legal issues to this, maybe a user could purchase the additional license that would run Windows inside Google's Chrome system. In the short term, it's going to be hard enough having support companies learn a whole new system. Why add the immediate burden to the software development community having to learn a whole new language to convert their programs? What you could do is encourage people to develop in Google's language over time because the speed and effectiveness of the program directly installed on your system would be better, while keeping the ability of having everyone switch over to your OS now DOS originally was the base for Windows. It is not the base now but is still kept in Windows because of the legacy applications and their continued use. I think my own company would have the same situation, we would want to move over to Google's new OS but can't because of Windows applications we use that will not be re-coded to use in Google's OS. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Chromium Discussion mailing list: [email protected] View archives, change email options, or unsubscribe: http://groups.google.com/group/chromium-discuss -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
