With Chrome and Gears, Google is bridging the gap between Web and Desk apps. One of the biggest problems is that you have to upload and download things, which takes time on slower connections.
My idea is that, in Windows, when selecting a program to run things, Chrome prompts you to use a web app to do this when selected to open or run a file. This could be as simple as selecting Google Docs or Zoho to open a Word Doc, but it could possibly involve a different form of communication: constant streaming between the two. I do not like the idea of constantly uploading and downloading to back up. I would rather have my files down here and upload to back up and to edit from other places. This would work with save files in video games. You could select Chrome to run your save file with (let's say) Quake through Native Client. It would allow you to easily stream changes without constant uploads and downloads, because you're running it on your PC using data on your PC, while not dealing with the content online, which could be absolutely massive, and your hard drive would not have to deal with it. This could also work well with Chrome OS. You might have a file on a flash drive, which you want to keep on the flash drive. Google could create web apps that run C and C++ apps through Native Client. This would allow users to easily bridge between Windows and Chrome OS. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Chromium Discussion mailing list: [email protected] View archives, change email options, or unsubscribe: http://groups.google.com/group/chromium-discuss -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
