After a while of running those tests, I noticed my system becoming
unresponsive. I opened a system monitor and noted that my memory was
(pretty much) full. Of course, recently I've noticed my memory has been
full more often than it used to be, but that may be why it's causing
your system to crash (if there's not enough memory, bad things can
happen). For me it's usually the application which is using the memory
that crashes, but I wouldn't be surprised if the whole system crashed.

Err, long story short: check your memory usage while running the tests
and see if it rises significantly as they progress. Report your
findings, if you want. ;)
