what has been happening (it seems) that browsers are known and used by
only sighted people. Hence differently-abled people cannot get on
Internet and hence are part of the digital divide.

Having said the above, if I , as a user (either for reasons above or
for more efficiency in search engine query which is also a side-effect
if people use the above standard correctly) is putting up the support
needed so that the above can happen. Non-profits as well as general
people could help in popularizing the standard and making more people
aware but till there is no tool that gives support to a particular
feature we can't do that :(

support would be having a way to see the longdesc if a webpage has it.
