I also hide the bookmark toolbar to save space, but I noticed that it always
shows for the homepage.  So if you enable the home button you have a choice
of either clicking new-tab to reach the bookmarks or pressing home,
depending on whether you wish to replace the current tab.
Seems to be working better for me than pressing Crtl-B.

I'm sure there will be many sidebar extensions in the future, I'm not a fan
of them personally.
