That way isn't persistent though. What I'm looking for is a way to give
people the ability to permanently change the icon that the extension shows
up with in the browser bar... Unless there is a way to get this to run
automatically when the browser loads:

chrome.browserAction.setIcon({"path":localStorage["icon"]});
