Is it possible to send requests to the background.html of an extension
from the extension's Option page using chrome.extension.sendRequest?

Perhaps the chrome.extension api should be exposed to the Options page
(or atleast parts of it). Currently, if the user makes any changes in
the Options page, she has to refresh the currently opened tabs for the
changes to reflect in the content script loaded on that particular
page.

It makes sense to allow the extension to send a request to the
background.html when the user clicks save on the Options page, so that
the background.html can then inform the content script to make the
changes. This will make the communication channel quite complete :)
