For the gallery to know you are updating, I think you need to use the same key you used when you originally uploaded. I'm not completely sure if this is a requirement for updates though... But we're doing that way and we haven't had any issues. They key.pem is the one Chrome generates when you pack and extension. It willa ctually have the name-of-your-folder.pem. So, from the first zip file you uploaded to the gallery, you should have included a key.pem file right? Just zip your extensions contents again including that same key.pem file.
