Hi All,

I noticed that there is no documentation on the usage of a "key" in
manifest.json file. For example, Gmail chrome extension's
manifest.json file has this "key":
{
.............

   "key":
"MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQDJGkMWn4RXMLn0JY4V3kEFkfdlpJzMcD5pSzM8l86o
+lF9sBF8du8lFs+m9EqDBOlDWSCG1ivbPjoUSAbV2pI8r/PuPtZSZw90e/8EtHOAmxfga/
aCAMWth83KIyrcfgfbLNCJnUBmtay/JZZhK5OBqCic8QMY6wTX6MSAzSGOtQIDAQAB",

................

}

What is the function of the above "key" line?

After I removed the "key", the extension seems to be still working.
The packaging process will create key pair, but this "key" is
different from that.

Thank you!

John
