In like vein, there is the hard-to-find recent film "Churchill: The
Hollywood Years" (or similar name), starring Christian Slater as Lt. Winston
Churchill, U.S.N., a veritable Rambo who, with his sidekick, saves England
from Hitler who has landed in England and is about to force himself on the
Royal Family in a shotgun-like (but not for the usual reasons) wedding. I
found it hilarious.

The premise was that Hollywood producers felt that the real Churchill
(British, old, bald and portly) was unsalable to the American movie-going
public, so in true Hollywood fashion they had to take liberties with the
script, assigning the real Churchill another role.

Subject: [ChurchillChat] Who Knew Churchill Knew Dr. Who?

Colleagues,

The following was submitted to me as an essay on a final exam taken this
week:

"Winston Churchill is most well known for being the British Prime Minister
during World War II. He saw the threat that Adolph Hitler presented to the
world, unlike that fool Neville Chamberlain, who thought, 'Now that Hitler
seems like a right fine ol' chap.' Winston Churchill was also responsible
for coining the 'iron curtain' phrase regarding communism. What most people
don't know about Churchill is that he was a personal friend of the Doctor,
or at least he knew the Doctor well enough to know his phone number and be
able to call him in the TARDIS. Churchill summoned the Doctor during World
War II when the Daleks had infiltrated the underground war cabinet
masquerading as weapons designed to defeat Hitler by a British scientist who
turned out to be an android created by the Daleks and given fake human
memories. Churchill later helped River Song get the painting Vincent Van
Gogh made of the TARDIS exploding to the Doctor to warn him of the Pandora
opening."
