I suspect this has already been answered, but his SECOND WORLD WAR royalties put Churchill on easy street...see Reynolds' IN COMMAND OF HISTORY for the details. Cohen's magisterial bibliography of WSC writings includes a lot of the financial earnings on this and earlier works.
