I agree with Dr Mather on IN SEARCH OF CHURCHILL which is a delightful book about Sir Martin's research process in writing the biography…I must have re-read this several times. It's harder to name a second book as there are so many of them…but my choice would almost surely be Sir Martin's one-volume "condensation" of the 8-volume "official" biography,, titled simply CHURCHILL. With these two, you've got the heart of Gilbert's long decades of Churchillian effort.
