Around the time of the Blitz it was suggested that frivolous public
entertainment such as theatre, cinema, and the arts be curtailed. Churchill
rejected the proposal on the grounds that it would decrease morale. Can a
member provide a reference for his support of the arts?

I have nearly completed Jonathon Rose’s The Literary Churchill where I recalled
this was mentioned but reading back I cannot find it.
