Also agree. I am always concerned when actors, directors, producers, etc. take the floor to expound on artistic and dramatic license when portraying an historical figure or event. Especially in defense of some the nonsense and rubbish that has been shown as history in recent years.
Of course, dramatic license is a necessity when inventing some dialog or scenes that are not documented and in certain instances for the continuity of the story. A good example is the film “Patton”. While it was necessary to compress certain events for the sake of time and “invent certain elements of scenes, no one who knew the general complained that the film did not accurately depict Patton’s public personality and give the audience the “essence” of the historical character. What I have seen of the depiction of WSC of late does not even come close to doing him justice. When a film, play, broadcast or book for that matter, plays loose, or makes up events that fly in the face of documented history in order to present a personal point of view (usually in a derogatory manner) and cloak such falsehoods as “dramatic license” to me it is nothing but sheer deception under the guise of artistic freedom. Especially, when the history itself can provide much seed for great drama and dialogue. A true piece of art can entertain while remaining reasonably true to actual events and character. Why not present the events in a true light with skill and real artistry and let the chips fall where they may. Sorry, just a frustrated admirer of a great and much maligned gentleman who I believe we owe our freedom to. It is even more vital, in this era of false news and social media, to ensure that actors, directors and producers do not put made up versions of history that are not true to actual events. Take care. Invented dialogue and scenarios are of course necessary for dramatic effect. Robert Hardy's scrupulously accurate portrayal of #Churchill<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/churchill?source=feed_text&story_id=1781009671915853>'s "Wilderness Years" has these, yet doesn't deviate an iota from fact or believability. And was at least as dramatic as this latest dose of Fake History. https://richardlangworth.com/cox-churchill-interview-charlie-rose -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "ChurchillChat" group.
