Speaking in an exclusive interview with FNA's
foreign policy desk, Mohsen Pak Ayeen noted the Iranian President's visit
to China to attend the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Council
(SCO) and stressed that Ahmadinejad's participation in the meeting would
help reinvigorate security cooperation in the region.

observer status in this organization indicates the confidence that such
important countries as Russia and China have in Iran as a country
influential in the establishment of peace in the region," he said.
"Presence of two established nuclear states and permanent members
of the UN Security Council (Russia and China) and the observer status of
two other established nuclear states (India and Pakistan) plus Iran as a
regional power in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can reinvigorate
the status of the SCO in global security balances," Pak Ayeen underscored.
The Ambassador spoke of the likely development of Iran's
multilateral cooperation with the SCO member states in political, economic
and commercial grounds and stressed that participation of President
Ahmadinejad in the upcoming SCO summit would help further identification
of the existing potentials for cooperation.
Also referring to
Iran's valuable experiences in the campaign against drug trafficking and
terrorism, he stated that Iran's attendance in the Shanghai Summit could
reinvigorate regional security and stability.
The Iranian diplomat
further pointed to the raison detre for the establishment of the SCO and
said, "Even though Shanghai Cooperation Organization was initially
intended for regional cooperation and it was also of a regional nature,
the present goals pursued by this organization are trans-regional,
including confrontation with the expansionist policies of NATO member
states in the region."
