We're all just trying to live in a better world. That's our one thing in
common. If one of us is deprived of justice, none of us can be assured of
justice, so if we seem off topic in the close-up shot, we are all on topic in
the bigger picture. It's all tied together. With that in mind, we're going to
throw ourselves on your mercy and ask for help.
You know, there's so little citizens can do in unjust encounters with
authority, but if, after reading our story, you want to help, there is a
petition we'd like to present to the authorities urging every one involved to
look very closely at this case. We know petitions hold no legal weight, but we
need a large number of signatures to let the system know that the situation
below has the public's attention. Our only request is that they conduct
themselves accordingly, be very thorough, and honestly seek the truth. That's
all they should need to clear Jeff Ferris' name.

Please read the article, sign the petition and pass this email along.
DUE PROCESS FOR JEFFREY FERRIS

WHEN A CELLMATE IS NOT AN ACCOMPLICE
By Joanna Ferris and Kay Lee

Here's another story of a quiet peaceful man who has been falsely accused of a
very violent crime. The big difference in this case is, Jeff Ferris was already
a prisoner - although he should have been paroled years ago - but that's
another story.

Mr. Ferris went to prison long long ago for the non-violent theft of $40. Even
though his prison record is clean and indicates he is not the kind of person to
seek out trouble; he is being charged with being involved in a violent murder
of another inmate.

Certain members of the Florida Department of 'Corrections' have apparently
decided that Inmate Ferris went from being a witness to a participant by virtue
solely of briefly being cellmates with the murderer. Here's the story...

Innocent Man Charged With Crime FDOC Knows He Did Not Commit
On February 5, 2005 in Lake Correctional Facility in Clermont Florida, Inmate
Jeffrey Ferris was an eyewitness to an inmate on inmate murder committed by his
new cellmate, RAUL ROQUE. Inmate Miguel Griffin, 37, died after being stabbed
during a fight with Inmate Roque. Inmate Ferris was simply an eye-witness.

In newspaper articles written the next day, it was stated that Roque, FDOC
Number M13610, an inmate serving life for murder, had confessed to being the
sole perpetrator of this crime, and in his statement he took full
responsibility for the murder. The article also noted that this matter was gang
related.

Inmate Ferris, a non-violent prisoner in good status, along with his
cell-mate, the killer of Inmate Griffin, were both transported the night of
the murder to FSP while the 'investigation' into this crime was conduced.

A few months into the investigation, Mrs. Ferris (wife to Inmate Ferris) was
told by Asst Warden Dixon that the state attorney's office had found that
inmate Ferris was in no way involved and was pending transfer to a different
facility.

While Inmate Ferris was being held at FSP, he found out that Asst Warden Greg
William at Polk CI is related to the dead inmate and had been reported as
stating that he would see to it that Inmate Ferris, as well as Inmate Raul
Roque, would pay for the murder of Inmate Griffin.
A few days later Inmate Ferris was transferred to the Everglades facility.
This is where the abuse began in earnest.
Major Barfield, Capt Forrest and an unnamed Sgt began abusing Inmate Ferris
in an apparent effort to come up with something to pin on him. They first wrote
Inmate Ferris a DR for contraband, which didn’t work because the 'contraband'
was eyeglasses which were state issued. The officers' next effort was in the
form of spoken threats. The accusations were lies but they managed to hold
fast.

An investigation was launched into the abuse on Inmate Ferris, which was
reported by his wife. That investigation was handed over to Deputy Secretary of
Corrections Laura Bedard [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Ms Bedard must have found some merit to the complain about abuse because
suddenly Inmate Ferris was transferred back to Martin Correctional, where all
of this began. Inmate Ferris was then placed in protective management but
someone saw fit to remove the paperwork that reported his status from his
jacket file.

Inmate Ferris remained at Martin Correctional for months without incident.
Then one day in October 2005, FDLE paid Inmate Ferris a visit. They told him
that Inmate Roque had changed his story. They claimed Inmate Roque was now
saying Inmate Ferris was involved.

Inmate Ferris told FDLE that Inmate Roque was lying and that Inmate Ferris
would testify to that. A few days later Inmate Ferris was served with an arrest
warrant for Inmate Roque's crime.

On January 31st, 2007, Inmate Ferris was taken to Lake County Jail and
arrested on the warrant.
My question is this: How can an inmate believably confess to a crime that he
and only he has committed and then months later change his story to include
someone else, who, up to this point was only an eyewitness to the crime?
Inmate Roque is in prison for murder and is an INS inmate to go along with it.
Now, despite one being innocent, both inmates are being held at the Lake County
Jail. We have grave concerns about the two inmates being held together in this
Jail.

There are too many set-ups and too many kickbacks and too many arrests of high
officials for us not to wonder what the hell is going on in the state of
Florida. Is this the only way that they can keep their paychecks coming? Has
corruption gotten that bad and gone that high up that it can’t be controlled?
Along with the fact that innocent people are being set-up to take the fall for
others, how much longer are people in this country going to watch this
continue? Are we going to sit by and see one more inmate being set-up without
doing anything to change the path of truth and justice? Are we going to let
Florida DOC continue to set their own rules to fit their own needs?

So many man and women have been charged with crimes which they have not
committed. Although figures differ, from 123 to more than 190 prison inmates
have been freed from death row with DNA evidence of their innocence since 1989,
including at least six in Florida. Will Inmate Ferris, another innocent man,
be forced by a perverse justice system to take one of their places?

These are the questions that should be asked and answered.
