Terrorism

Terrorism has been a part of history since the beginning of mankind. Based on the Bible, Archeology, and other history, this fact is easy to see. The Hebrews terrorized the ancient Palestinian tribes, ostensibly by the command of God.  The Vikings terrorized and plundered northern Europe for centuries. The American Indians terrorized immigrant settlers on the American frontier who were encroaching on their ancestral lands. However, if one looks at historical terrorism as a whole, it is easy to see that most terrorism has been due to religious beliefs and differences.

From the European Crusades to the Holy Land, to the march of Islam across the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe and some  Pacific islands , to the Spanish Inquisition, to the Spanish and Portuguese conquest of  South America , terrorism and even torture was used to force inhabitants to “convert” to the faith of the invading groups. The progenitor of the Baptist faith, John Calvin, had many people, who did not agree with him, burned at the stake.

Now, in 2005, many Americans are suffering from religious terrorism which is being carried out by extreme right wing “christians”. Soon after 9/11 Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson began terrorizing Gays and others by saying that their lifestyles had caused the 9/11 attacks. Also many right wing “christians” have openly supported Eric Rudolf, the murderer who has bombed abortion clinics.

I, myself have been the target of right wing individuals who have consigned me to Hell for such things as being a Democrat, using a Revised Standard Version of the Bible, believing in global warming, not hating homosexuals, and supporting women’s right to choose.

There is a great danger that the United States might become a “right wing theocracy”  . God spare us from hate mongering “Christians”
